The Power of Kindness: A Thanksgiving Reflection to Inspire You
Practicing Kindness Can Transform Your Life and Your Relationships
As we enter this Thanksgiving weekend (clearly I am Canadian), it’s the perfect time to reflect on the power of kindness and how much it can impact not only others but also ourselves.
Have you ever given or done something kind for someone and then felt disappointed by their reaction—or lack thereof? It can be disheartening, but I feel it’s important to remember that true acts of kindness come from a place of pure giving, without strings attached. I believe that when we choose to genuinely give from a place of thoughtfulness and love, we can detach from expectations. When we show up for others without expecting anything in return—when we simply give for the sake of giving—we shine a little brighter, and inspire that in others too.
This Thanksgiving, I encourage all of us to embrace the art of giving and to consider sharing a random act of kindness. It could be something small, like smiling at a stranger, being extra patient with the barista making your coffee, or telling someone in your life why they’re special to you. It doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful. Each small act has the power to spread light and love in ways we may never see or understand.
This is what Thanksgiving means to me—taking a moment to appreciate and acknowledge the people in our lives. It’s about gathering with family and friends, being grateful for what we have and looking beyond what we have or have not. When we leave this earth, we won’t be remembered for the money we made or the car we drove. We’ll be remembered for the love we shared, the laughter we sparked, and the kindness we inspired in others.
So, this Thanksgiving weekend, I hope this simple note encourages you to thank the people who light up your life and to let someone know why they’re special to you. After eight years of coaching and countless conversations, I’ve learned one universal truth: we all seek to be seen, heard, and affirmed. We can give this gift to those around us, whether it’s over Thanksgiving dinner, through a heartfelt message, or with a warm hug. This very simple, thoughtful initiative will warm your heart too. Give it a try and take note of what happens in your heart, your body and your headspace.
